The Failed Facebook Experiment - or - I was gone, but now I'm back.

I will admit it: I've spent too much time on Facebook. But I've had it. I wasn't getting any social networking done, just browsing people's profiles to see what was new with them.

My one attempt at social networking fell on its face, leaving me with my desire to play hockey intact and ashes in my mouth regarding Facebook.

Still, I persevered, I put in my time, but I kept getting added by people I barely knew and others who I didn't really like. I didn't mind it when Facebook was a dozen or so friends who were still relevant in my life but it ballooned out of control so I would log in, look at some groups, look at some people and log out. I wasn't contributing, I wasn't creating, I was just wasting time.

Instead, I'm going to waste time here, putting posts up on my blog like I should have been doing all along.

After all, I've read 16 books this year and I think I'm shy 14 write-ups. I just hope I can remember what happened in what book.

Let's hear it for productive wastes of time!

I am beginning to reach the same Facebook conclusion that you did...I'm rapidly tiring of opening my damn email box and seeing 18 new messages, 15 of which are notes about people I kinda sorta know updating something on their damn page. I should have known not to dive in to anything fully endorsed by Shaun Guthrie...

And I'm STILL up for street hockey later this year. Maybe if we wait until the fall, when it's cooler, and everyone's vacations are done?

That's a good point too. I hate wading through facebook emails. I could have turned that off but I was too lazy.

However, now I'm not on there anymore so I can actually go ahead and delete those emails.

And I'm back here! That makes me happy!

As for hockey, I'm down for it but I don't feel like planning anything.

Plan it easy, Lum. figure out anyone who could be interested, and send one mass email to everybody in one shot. Aim for a weekend in, say...September. Anyone who can make it, great. If it doesn't work for them, and we have enough people, too bad for them.

Funny. I thought I did that for June.

You just were unlucky enough to pick a bad weekend.

There ARE no good weekends for planning stuff.

People are always busy. Case in point: me.

I was confused what you meant about "facebook emails" until I realized I must have turned those off on signing up. If you start some anti-facebook revolution and I have to find some other venue to keep people up to date on our lives in Chicago you will RUE THE DAY! RUE IT!

and street hockey... I was going to be one of those "see if I can make it the day of" kinda people, but by the time that came around it had already been canceled.

I find if you don't think there will be enough people, it's best to cancel before because I can never seem to get ahold of everyone on the day of and someone ends up waiting out there and then I get an angry phone call.

Hmmm...Kyle has given us an idea...we could restart the long-stalled revolution...but base it on the destruction of Facebook.

Facebook equals France?

Yes! I shall switch my hatred to Facebook! After all, France does produce some good food and wine. What good comes from Facebook?

i know how you feel Liam. After a brief flurry of activity upon signing up, I haven't been on facebook in over a month.

It seems like a good idea, but I never quite care enough to log on. Once I check it though, I tend to be pretty hooked for an hour or so

I'm in for Street Hockey

Free yourself, Herr James! Free yourself from the shackles of Facebook's tyranny!
