For some of Kim's holisticky friends, the Winter Solstice is a time to get together and do some celebrating. Obviously, I wouldn't have mentioned this if we weren't part of this year's celebrations.
Dinah, a friend of Kim's, hosted a Solstice party (and incidentally had some kittens free, to good home). Short story even shorter, we got a cat. It was my early Christmas present.
It's amazing what people will do to be polite. I named the cat fingers, and person after person has paused in the dilemma of 'That's a really stupid name but do I hurt the guy's feelings?' and decided against it by saying, "Umm, yeah, that's a real cool... name?"
So, without further ado, here is Fingers (despite what Nicholas decides to call her):

Kitty!
Ahem.
That Kitty probably doesn't have a lot of MASS.
Yes, Fingers is a good name.
I also find Fingers acceptable.
What was Nick's idea...Thumbs? Big Toe? Dirt McGirt?
Liam, it would appear you have consortium approval.
Congratulations!
Nicholas started off without a name but didn't like Fingers. So his mother said that the cat's middle name was Tiger-Stripe. So Nicholas decided he would call the cat Tiger-Stripe. Then, his mom said that she used to have a cat named Tiger. So Nicholas wanted to call the cat Tiger. Then he got a little bit confused and called the cat "Tiger-Stripes and Tiger" for awhile. Now he just says "Kitty" but he knows that the cat's name is Fingers.
My new favourite game is "Fingers on my toes". The cat likes to chew on my toes. A little disturbing, to quote consortium... ahem... Consortium member Sean, but fun.
There were also little black kittens at the party - one of them was curled around a coffee mug and Nicholas wanted to call that cat "Mug" or "Mugs" and I thought that would be an acceptable name for a kitten as well. (Keeping away from the fact that I wanted to take one of them as well.
And call it "Mugs".
Mugs works. Good call.
Wow...this is a momentous occasion...the consortium has come out in FAVOUR of Liam. I'm not sure how to react to this at all.
Not updating this blog makes Fingers cry.
I can hear his pitiful mewlings blowing on the wind...
I can hear YOUR pitiful mewlings blowing in the wind.
And fingers is a girl-cat.
I thought I was discreetly internalizing my pain. Sorry. I'll whimper in private.
